Our Help

We are keen to help visitors who are interested in genealogy and researching their family roots in the Carnoustie area and, more generally, Dundee, Angus and Kincardineshire.

In December 2011 we attended the Tayroots Ancestral Tourism training events sponsored by Angus Council and Visit Scotland. As a result we have now been awarded the Tayroots Ancestral Partner Certificate and are a registered hospitality partner of theirs.

Angus Council, in the form of their Tayroots brand are particularly well organised and proactive as regards helping, and providing resources for, people interested in local genealogy. You will find a great deal of information about this on our Local Resources page.

What does this mean for you?
It means that we are aware of and understand relevant genealogical resources, including facilitating your use of resources. If your enquiry lies outside the scope of our business then we can make referral to other sources of guidance.

Not all resources are online, even nowadays. It is surprising what is held physically and locally such as employment records from important local industries and school log books. A trip to the Angus Archives located at the historic Restenneth Priory near Forfar is a must.

We hope that our assistance, including free WiFi facility, will encourage you not only to research your Scottish family history, but also to visit this area to experience the places your distant family saw and lived in.
